A long day

We had a long day today. It began in Idaho city, Idaho at 7 AM this morning.it is now 6:02 PM and we are just a short distance away from Park city, Utah. We left Idaho as there were so many fires in areas we wanted to go to we felt it would not be safe. And the smoke was terrible, obscuring any beautiful vistas we might’ve encountered. Also it was 100° or more even at 4200 feet in elevation. Way too hot to be enjoyable!

Today we traveled about 400 miles. We did take some time to see a few sites. One of the most photogenic was Shoshone Falls near Twin Falls, Idaho. Images and video below.

We will have some additional images to post in the next few days. Thank you for following our travels.

We survived!

We survived dinner at the Cowboy Dinner Tree! And like most of the attendees we had quite a bit of the 32 ounce steak which we took in a doggy bag to the refrigerator in our Roadtrek. From the sizes of our leftovers we will enjoy several more meals.

Below is my steak and baked potato. This was served after the all you can eat salad, rolls and cowboy beans.

Below is a picture of Marilyn’s steak, baked potato and very delicious rolls.

Below is a photograph of most of the attendees from Yan’s 2016 PNW gathering.

We are now on our way to Boise, Idaho. Additional blog posts to follow over the next several weeks. Hope everyone is doing well and having a great time. We certainly are!

We are

Before continuing with our blog we would like to give a big shout out and thank you to Steve McDonald with Roadtrek/Hymer. He was very helpful in establishing an appointment for us to get a problem checked out that we are having with the Roadtrek, Geraldine III in Boise, Idaho at the dealer there.

Now, on with our blog.

We have been enjoying the last few days at Yan’s PNW gathering near Silver Lake, Oregon. We are scheduled to have dinner tonight at the Cowboys dinner tree. A famous dining place near the campground area where we are staying. Below is a photo that I took of this location this morning.

We understand from local people that there are folks that come in here from all over the world to eat at the Cowboy Dinner Tree. Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to report on the meal and festivities of the evening. I believe that the building on the left is the dining area. I will not know until tonight if the tree grows into the restaurant or not. 😎

Thanks to WiFi

Remember, you can click on the small image to make it larger.

Thanks to the free WiFi at the Library in Silver Lake, Oregon we are able to provide an update. We are attending a four day Roadtrek gathering near there, organized by Yan Seiner with Roadtrek. Roadtrekers from across the U. S., west coast to New York and New England. Having a great time while connecting with other Roadtrek owners.

Today the group visited Fort Rock. Some of them went on to Fort Rock State Park. Interesting history. Named for the unusual rock formation.

That is our new Roadtrek in the foreground.

Here is an image which I hope gives a better idea of the massive size of Fort Rock. We were about four miles away when we took this.

Also visited was the Museum at Fort Rock, Oregon. Below are several images from there. The museum has moved several historical buildings from the area, including homes, a church and school. They also had a several pieces of old farming machinery

Fort Rock is in the background.

A brief story of the town of Fort Rock.

The next two images show part of Yan’s gathering group learning some of the history of the various buildings.

Blacksmith shop.

An old Mobil Oil gasoline pump and a working windmill which was pumping water.

The St. Rose’s church building.

Artifacts in the Widmer Cabin. Oldest Lake County Cultural sites date back 14,500 years. Below are pestles with grindstones for grinding grain, an arrowhead collection from the area Indians, the Lake County obsidian artifacts were traded as far away as New York.

Below are a miniature horse model with real horse hair and a miniature wagon replica.

We believe everyone had a great day!

More of Oregon

I noticed today that if one wishes to view an image larger than it shows in your email notice you just have to click on it. We hope this helps you enjoy our posts to this blog.

Today after driving into Bend, Oregon to pick up some groceries and fill up with gas on our return to La Pine we decided to stop off and explore the Lava Lands near the Lava Lands Visitor Center.

We soon discovered that we were not the only one exploring.

It seemed as though this little chipmunk was keeping track of our explorations.

Now that we have satisfied the animal interest below are a few images from the Lava Lands, a portion of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

Over the centuries some vegetation has managed to grow among all this volcanic rock. Amazing

Yesterday, near Lapine, OR

We hope everyone is having a great Sunday morning. We had a busy day yesterday exploring in the Lapine, Oregon area.

First we went to see “the big tree”.

Next was the Don McGregor Viewpoint which we discovered was of the Deschutes River.

After this we drove in to the city of Lapine just to see what was there. Much to our surprise we found an Anytime Fitness so we worked out to limber up a few muscles which had not been stretched for many miles. Excellent facility No photos! 😎

Next we visited the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and spent our time at the Newberry Caldera. Very interesting.

The amount of lava and obsidian was remarkable.

While still in the caldera we stopped by Paulina Falls.

And got a video.

We hope you enjoy traveling along with us!

Two Tall Mountains

Just a short video taken as we were traveling from Washington to Oregon. This was from one of the places where you can see both Mount Hood and Mount Rainier.
