Visited Frisco today

Another semi lazy day today, drove down to Frisco from Leadville for a little shopping. Frisco is alongside Interstate 70. Lots of new stores close to the highway. And a Starbucks! 😎

The original downtown is well preserved with Lots of little shops and cafes, etc.

When we returned to our campsite we walked down to the lake. On the way we found this small stalk of fireweed.

Our walk went down to Turquoise Lake where we found this collection of driftwood to share.

Suggestion, Surprise!

A friend suggested that when we leave Estes Park, Colorado we stop by Brainard Lake. Wonderful surprise! We were able to get a campsite in the wooded area at the Pawnee campground for a night. Thank you Cathie!

The wildflower so were really blooming at the almost 11,000 ft. altitude. Below are severa example.

We took a hike of a bit over a quarter mile to Long lake after getting reports of a large bull moose there. We were pleased and surprised to find this was true. He was an excellent specimen and subject.

We hope you enjoy,
Larry

Birds in Colorado

Took a little time today to get a few images of a few birds here near Estes Park, Colorado.

A male house finch. Appears to be wondering if he knows me? 🙂

Above is a woodpecker, probably a downy.

A more customary position for a nuthatch, upside down and digging in the bark.

It is amazing the range of motion of a nuthatch’ head.

It appears that when they are unable to dig it out with their beak they resort to clawing.

Not sure of the identification of this bird. Just thought that since it posed so nicely for me I should include it.

Two Tall Mountains

Another sunset view of Turquoise Lake in Colorado. Mt. Elbert on the left, Mt. Massive on the right. Two of the tallest peaks in Colorado.

We truly love the places and sites we get to see thanks to our Roadtrek. Roadtrek.com

What in the world?

During one of our recent exploration trips we went to the Florissant Fossil Beds site. While there we saw these strange objects that were cabled to hold them together and they were under shelters.

Turns out they were petrified redwood tree stumps, centuries old.

The 1878 Hornbek Homestead is also at this location.

Mueller State Park, Colorado

Today we drove up to Divide, Colorado and then went south on CO 67. Drove around Mueller State Park. Wow, what a nice park and campground. A fellow Roadtrek owner told us that if you want a campsite you had better reserve it. He said they only allow reservations six months in advance and the sites are gone quickly.

While there we availed ourselves of the observation platform near the Visitor Center to get a few images. They are below.

Above is a view of Pikes Peak from the west. Much more recognizable from the east. 🙂

Above is a panorama looking to the south and west from the observation platform.
