Moving Day

We will be heading out soon, going down to Durango. Yesterday we got a chance to get an image of the hummingbird below. Hard to catch them when they are not on a feeder. 😎

Surprise

While we were at the McPhee Reservoir Overlook I was very surprised when Marilyn’s nephew spotted the cacti and lizard. Evidently this is where the mountains meet the desert.

Below is one cactus with a bud and a bloom. Fortunate to get these images!

The same cactus from a slightly different perspective.

A different cactus, this one with a pink bloom.

Another visitor to the overlook. It does appear from the look on its face and in its eye that we may being viewed as an interloper in its domain?

McPhee Reservoir Overlook

Today we drove down through Dolores, Colorado and on to the overlook at McPhee Reservoir. Had a few showers on the way and when we arrived there we were able to see several thunderstorms around the area. We felt perfectly safe in our Roadtrek.

As you can see from the image from Apple Maps it is a quite large reservoir. It is named for a town that was inundated when the river was dammed.

A panorama of just a small portion of the reservoir.

One can see a long distance from the overlook. The mountains in the distance here is where the Mesa Verde park is located.

This thunderstorm kept getting closer and put an end to photography session for the day. Thunder and lightening was getting too close.

Ouray, Colorado

Drove from Leadville, Colorado to Ouray, Colorado today. A bit warm in the valleys but pretty nice in Ouray. When we got to town they had just finished their parade, half of Colorado must be here! Streets were lined with vehicles and pedestrians were really thick. Traffic was nearly at a standstill.

Below, a view of most of Ouray. The entire town is a National Historic District. Beautiful older homes and buildings.

Below, a wild flower, perhaps an aster.

Just down from Monarch Pass

We left the Leadville, Colorado area early. We are now in Gunnison Colorado having a snack and Starbucks.

We took the opportunity to get this image while we were at the summit of Monarch Pass. Hopefully later today we will get the opportunity to upload some additional photos from the Turquoise Lake area.

As soon as we finish our Starbucks and snack we will head over towards Montrose, Colorado. We hope everyone has a safe and sane Fourth of July!
