A short video now on YouTube

I just uploaded a fairly short video of some of the demonstration of the sled dogs at Denali National Park. No narration, just the noise of the dogs and the crowd. A ranger presented a fairly long program about the dogs and how they are bred and work. They are the primary mode of transportation in the park in the winter. The dogs often work in temperatures down to minus 40 degrees fahrenheit.

I hope you enjoy, here is the link

Bear Grass

We are very pleased to be back home. Our trip to AK was over 14,000 miles and two and a half months. We had a great time seeing relatives and old friends on our trip. We hope you enjoyed our travels as much as we did.

Bear grass in bloom in Montana. Often seen growing and blooming in the forests and along some of the by-ways.

Wyoming Wildflowers

On our trip up to Alaska we went up through Yellowstone National Park. While driving the east loop we happened to see this small area where the wild flowers were blooming alongside a tree which had been downed.

a small short video of our visit to Mt. Rushmore

On our way home we stopped by Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota. We took this short video to show how popular the place is and get a close up shot of the mountain.

Great quote

“Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him, better take a closer look at the American Indian.”

Jackson Glacier

On our way home we detoured a bit and visited Wateron-Glacier National Park, used to be just Glacier National Park. We drove up as far as Logan Pass on the “Road to the Sun”. Just before arriving at the pass we entered a cloud bank that made it impossible to see anything so we started back down. Below are three images of Jackson Glacier taken with the Nikon V3 and Nikon 28-300mm zoom lens. I hope you like them?

The first image is about like it would appear to the naked eye, no binoculars or any assistance. Like an 85mm lens. It is quite a distance away.

This image is with a medium length lens, about 300mm. These image are from a Nikon V3 camera with a Nikon 28-300mm lens but the camera has a 2.7 crop factor which allows one to really “reach out there”.

To get this image of the face of Jackson Glacier the lens was set to 190mm which on the V3 equated to about 513mm. This gave me this image.

During our trip

On our way home from Alaska we visited Mt. Rushmore National Monument in South Dakota. Should you ever have the opportunity it is a wondrous site. These four Presidents did a lot for our country during their lives and not just during their Presidencies.
Here is Mt. Rushmore with the four Presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theordore “Teddy” Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln framed by one of the arches of the memorial.

Here is a view of the Memorial buildings and walkways with Mount Rushmore in the distance. Well worth a visit.

Below is an image of the creator of Mt. Rushmore stone carvings, Mr. Gutzon Borglum.

We are

We are now in Great Falls, MT for tonight. Visited Glacier NP today and videoed the drive up the “road to the sun”. Except when we got to Logan’s Pass it was too cloudy (foggy) to see anything.

No images with this update, drove from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Great Falls today. Too tired to download images or video. Hopefully in the next few days we can include a few with our next update.

We will be heading toward Mt. Rushmore tomorrow. May not get there until Wednesday.
