Eagle River

We took a short detour today. Drove up to Eagle River and then up to the end of a side road. It ended at what was a portion of the old historic Iditarod Trail. The marker is below.

This is a view of one of the snow-covered peaks which can ce viewed from the end of the road.

This is a small wildflower.

Alyeska

Today we took a short side trip up to the Alyeska resort. Skiing in the winter. A very nice resort!

We are now in Anchorage and it is raining. Dinner, watch a show on the iPad from TNT and get a good nights sleep. Heading north tomorrow.

While there we managed to get these images of the mountains surrounding the resort.

Very cloudy

Drove to Whittier. Clouds were so low it was a waste of time. I imagine it is very pretty when the clouds lift. Below are the two images we got. Just could not see the tops of the mountains. Maybe next time.

Overcast and some rain on and off during our trip down to Homer today as you can see from the photos. Easier day, only about 185 miles. Had a real treat in Homer, see below.

Welcome

These images are our way of welcoming you to Alaska where we will be for the next few weeks. Currently we are in Soldotna. We got these images on our way here. I am hoping these give you a bit of a feeling for our 50th and largest state.

A silhouette of one of the many mountains, this one making its own clouds.

One of the many glaciers they have here in Alaska.
