Arkansas Fall Color

On our way south we paid a very brief visit to the Buffalo National river area. We were planning to spend the night while hoping that it might quit raining. Instead we learned that there is no overnight camping allowed at Lost Valley campground and no RV’s or campers allowed at Steele Creek campgrounds. It was getting late in the afternoon we got a few images of some of the fall color before heading further south in AR. It turned out that it continued to rain all night so we had made the correct decision.

We hope you enjoy these two images,

Oklahoma whitetail deer

Surprised to find several Oklahoma white-tailed deer out in the open this afternoon at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in eastern Oklahoma today. It was very overcast and that might have been the reason the herd was out in the open. There were three bucks and about eight does in the gathering. They were having a big time playing and hopping around. Even through the water.

We hope you enjoy these white-tailed deer,

A little color

As we left Colorado on our recent trip we were able to find a few small groves of aspen changing color. It is amazing how these trees sparkle when the wind is blowing. It seems the leaves are reflectors. Beautiful colors, yellow, red, green, and gold.

North Clear Creek Falls

Driving into another Colorado valley on our trip with nothing differentiating it from many others we saw a sign for a waterfall. We wondered how far away it might be in this apparently pretty level valley. Surprisingly it was a very short distance from the Silverthread Scenic Byway, Highway 149, just kind of hidden in the valley. A very nice surprise!

Colorado Valley Vista

Here is another image from our recent tour around Colorado. We were a week or two early to get the aspens showing their colors. Maybe next year……

wayward

Found this wayward roadrunner on our trip over the Glade Top Trail here in MO this morning. It must have taken a wrong turn while on its way from TX to Bosque. 🙂

The other image is the very small bit of color we saw on our trip, deep into the forest. If the sun had not been shining on it so brightly I probably would have missed it.

It looks like at least over a week before we get much color here. Some of the leaves were showing a yellow cast, other than that there was no color worth shooting.

Time for a nap, woke up way too early this AM. 🙂

Colorado Mountains

We saw this scene early in our trip. The San Juan Mountains from near Monte Vista, Colorado. We had a nice time during our visit to Colorado even though it rained much of the time. Our destination was altered due to the heavy rains on the front range and we were nearly trapped by them. We were in Boulder when most of the flooding occured and there were only two roads open out of there. We got to the Interstate and after a very lengthy traffic delay on I-70 near Idaho Springs we were able to make it on up to Fraser to join our friends from MO. It was a nice two week trip and we are very happy to be back home.

Some Day!

This tiny aspen seemed to be calling out “Some day I will be a big tree!”

Taken during our recent trip to Colorado. This little guy survived the 500 year flood, as did we.

A great day

Spent part of the day driving up to the top of the mountain on Highway 34 toward Estes Park as it was re-opened today. We were hoping to find some big horn sheep. No luck in that department although we were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to get a nice image of this bull elk. A six pointer and very healthy looking.

We will keep looking for big horn sheep while we are waiting on the aspens to come into more color.

Bull Moose

This bull moose was a long way away just coming out of the brush.
