A little excitement near Valdez, AK

Yesterday when exploring the area near Valdez we happened across this young bear. He was dining and started with a salad of the greens he is in.  LOL

A day of relaxation in Valdez

Waterfall near Valdez

Waterfall near Valdez

We are just relaxing today in Valdez at the Bayside RV Park. Depart tomorrow for Anchorage and Soldotna. Above is one of the many snow melt mountain waterfalls, this one surrounded by trees instead of rocks. I am starting to refer to them as ‘vertical creeks’.   🙂

A story we heard about Tern Lake. Several years ago a truck loaded with vodka overturned spilling vodka into the lake. The story then goes “no tern was left unstoned“.

Best and Biggest

For the best and biggest hamburger on the Dalton Highway, HotSpot Cafe & Gifts. 60 mile Dalton Highway, 5 miles north of the Yukon river bridge. The one we had was excellent! Just sorry we did not think to take a photo until it was all gone.

Apology, not all posts will be in sequence

Due to the difficulty in finding Internet and an electric plug-in some of the posts on this blog will not necessarily be in the order of our trip. Wi-Fi is not too hard to find. A place that allows one to connect to electricity is tougher. My Mac laptop will only run so long without recharging.  LOL

My apologies, but here are some images from some of our previous stops.

Dalton Highway and Alyeska Pipeline

Thankfully the Dalton Highway is a bit less crooked than the Alyeska Pipeline, just a bit. The pipeline was built with all the crooks to allow for contraction and expansion during the extreme temperature changes summer through winter.

Our Roadtrek home away from home at the Arctic Circle

Our Roadtrek, our home away from home for this adventure to Alaska. We are having a great trip and learning how well suited to this kind of travel the Roadtrek is. The Alaska roads have certainly given it and us good “shakedown trip” and the Roadtrek is holding up better than we are. We get tired, it just keeps going and going like the Energizer bunny.

Arctic Circle

We returned today to Fairbanks after visiting the Arctic Circle via the Dalton Highway, also known as the “Haul Road”. Quite a drive on some pavement and lots of gravel road.

A long drive on paved and gravel road. Pretty scenery along the way and lots of smoke from some forest fires.
