Having some time today we went out to check out the campgrounds we will be staying at next week. Since we were so close we decided to drive on up toward the summit of the Beartooth Highway. It goes up over 9,000 feet of elevation. When we neared the top there was the Rock Creek Vista turnout. 9,190 foot in elevation. Below are some of t.he images we got while there.
Below is a marmot which decided to come and enjoy the sun (which slipped behind a cloud when I took the photo:).
Below is a view of the mountain range the Beartooth Highway goes over. Still lots of snow at this elevation.
Below is a panorama of the mountain range.
Below is a tree Marilyn though deserved a photo for all the work it had done to grow through the rocks.
The view below shows just a small number of the switchbacks one has to negotiate on the climb up the mountain on the Beartooth Highway. Most of tHem are 25 MPH turnbacks.
