Bosque

One of the roads at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Lots of snow left in the area. Many of the ponds remained frozen. Hoping for warmer weather tomorrow.

Just a little

Greetings from sunny El Paso, Texas. LOL

White Christmas came a little late here in El Paso. Just two days. Looks like it’ll be a little while before we go anywhere. Streets are covered with snow and the driving lanes have deep slush. Starbucks will have to wait until late today!

This snapshot of Geraldine three wearing her first coat of snow was taken just a few minutes ago. If anyone ever told you it never snows in El Paso here is the proof that it sure is heck does!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and we are looking forward to and wishing you a happy new year!

Fall is Approaching

The aspen trees are just beginning to adopt their fall colors. Below are a few images that here in the high mountains of Colorado the fall season is rapidly approaching.

Just a small cluster of aspen leaves which have turned.

An even larger cluster of the yellow leaves that Aspen trees are famous for.

Finally a few more aspen leaves.

Fall is almost here in the Colorado mountains. And we are heading home today after truly enjoying our time this summer. We visited several states, met a lot of nice people and finally got some images of a very large bull moose.

Early morning

We were up early this morning and drove over to Brainard Lake. Good fortune was with us as the very large Shiskas bull moose was there. Fog was rising off the lake and the morning light was very nice.

When the sun was warming up the moose the fog was also coming off of him.

Brainard Lake was behind the bull moose with lots of fog rising. It got down to the high 30 degrees at this altitude last night.

Statue & Church

During a recent drive back from Estes Park to Pawnee Campground we stopped to visit the Saint Malo Center. Below are a few images.

Wild flowers, bees, etc.

Today we are sharing a few images from the last few days. Wild flowers, bees, lake and creeks. We hope you enjoy them. We are still in the Brainard Lake area and truly enjoying the scenery and weather.

This view is from the hiking trail. The Rocky Mountains in the background, forest, Long Lake with the stream that exits from it in the foreground. We have truly enjoyed our stay in the Pawnee Campground. It is near Ward, Colorado which is just off the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway. We hope to get reservations here next summer.

Brainard lake area birds

While in the Brainard Lake area we have seen a few birds. Below are the images.

Above one of the Steller’s Jays appears to be telling the gray bird he is intruding on their turf?

It appears this one is preparing to have a feast?

There were also some very small birds in the area.

I wouldn’t mess with that moose.

Subject: Huge bull moose

Finally after six years we found our photogenic mature Shiras bull moose. We are once again at Pawnee Campground near the small and old town of Ward, Colorado. Brainard and Long lakes are close to the campground. This moose favored us by staying around while we were in other parts of Colorado.

We plan to be here for about a week with occasional visits to Estes Park for groceries and a good cellular connection. I have no idea when this post will Be delivered. There is one spot about five miles from here where we sometimes get a signal, varying widely in strength. 😎

There is a Shiras bull moose in this image, really! This is where we found him yesterday.

You can see him better in this image. Used my Nikon V3 and 28-300mm lens so I did not have to get closer. I have heard more people are killed by moose every year than by bears.

This Shiras bull moose spends most of his time eating. We are hoping this is not a sign of an early and snowy winter here in Colorado.
