Beartooth Mountains foothills

The weather in Montana is wonderful today. They have had a lot of rain and the rivers and creeks are running very full.

Below is a photo of just one of the many Creek in the mountains here in Montana. As you can see the scenery is awesome and the creeks are running full.

Below is an image taken alongside the highway up to Beartooth Pass. Beautiful country, Many cliffs with different colors. And of course plentiful evergreen and aspen trees. This scene is just south of Red Lodge, Montana alongside the highway driving towards the switchbacks going up the mountain.

Beartooth Mountains

This is a view of part of the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. Taken from near Red Lodge, MT. We will be in a campground near here for the next several days with about 50 other Roadtrek owners. The campground has no WiFi or cell service so I won’t be posting much unless we come back to Red Lodge.

Beartooth Highway

Having some time today we went out to check out the campgrounds we will be staying at next week. Since we were so close we decided to drive on up toward the summit of the Beartooth Highway. It goes up over 9,000 feet of elevation. When we neared the top there was the Rock Creek Vista turnout. 9,190 foot in elevation. Below are some of t.he images we got while there.

Below is a marmot which decided to come and enjoy the sun (which slipped behind a cloud when I took the photo:).

Below is a view of the mountain range the Beartooth Highway goes over. Still lots of snow at this elevation.

Below is a panorama of the mountain range.

Below is a tree Marilyn though deserved a photo for all the work it had done to grow through the rocks.

The view below shows just a small number of the switchbacks one has to negotiate on the climb up the mountain on the Beartooth Highway. Most of tHem are 25 MPH turnbacks.

Another image from

Here ia another image from our travels. This is Geraldine II sitting below Devils Tower in Wyoming, one huge rock. Just after this was taken a downpour began during which there was a little sleet. Afterwards during out drive to Gillette there was dime to quarter size hail along with the downpour. It seems all the rivers in NE and WY are close to overflowing and their is lots of water standing in the farm fields.Today we are resting a bit in Gillette, WY. We may go on to the west a bit further this afternoon.

Hoping everyone is doing great,
Larry

Fort Falls at Fort Niobrara NWR in northern Nebaska

Yesterday we spent most of the day exploring Forth Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge in northern Nebraska. Had a very nice day and managed the hike down and up 75 steps and some trail to get to Fort Falls. Below is an image of Fort Falls.

We are now in Rapid City, SD enjoying a Starbucks. Then we will dig our maps out and determine where we go next. LOL

Having a very nice leisurely trip,
Larry

We just recently departed from valentine national wildlife refuge and near Valentine, Nebraska. Overcast during almost all of the drive with occasional sprinkles. We were probably a month or so too late to get to view a lot of wildlife and birds.

We were fortunate enough to find a few trumpeters swans. They are below.

Traveling Again

Off on the road for the summer. Hoping along the way to be able to add posts to our blog with images of sites we have seen. And which will be enjoyable for you.

One of our first stops on this trip was the Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuge. Not the most active time of year for this refuge. It was nice to become more familiar with it while almost no one else was there. Current residents were a few deer that were to quick to run away along with some ducks, geese, white pelicans and a few other varieties of smaller birds.

Canada Goose Family posing

This family of Canada Geese found a place to dry their feet.    🙂

Our next stop was the Lewis and Clark Center in Nebraska City, NE. We did not take any photos there. An elementary class was visiting and their were children everywhere enjoying their class visit.

While in Nebraska City, NE we were told about the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park. A very interesting park, should you be in that area it is well worth the visit and admission.

The favorite part for Marilyn was the Carriage House. I think if there had been a horse available she might have hooked it to one of the carriages and taken it for a spin.  LOL

There are many different carriages and conveyances in the exhibit and below is the Tack Room that also has some interesting items in the exhibit.

A few of the carriages

Named the Arbor Mansion. Located in Nebraska City, NE Started in 1855 by J. Sterling Morton, completed in 1903 by Joy Morton his eldest son, who also founded Morton Salt Co. The elder Mr. Morton started Arbor Dau.

Grand Staircase & Painting

The image above is of the grand staircase and a very large painting. Most of the furnishings in the home are of the late 1800 and early 1900’s.

We hope to be able to continue posting to this blog. It will depend on when and where we can find an Internet connection and whether we have gotten any images worth posting.

Have a great summer!

Just one of our memories

Here is just one of our memories from our trip to Alaska this summer. This is a view of Mt. McKinley from the south. Fireweed and a braided river in the foreground with several forests in view.

We had a great time on our trip. Went several places we missed on our trip in 2011. Kennicott mining town, Wrangell mountains, the town of Chicken and got to visit with our good friends in Soldotna.

This image has been posted on our Web site, www.OzarksPhotos.com along with others from our trip. We still have several to look at and post there. Hopefully over the next several days.

Our posting to the blog has been slowed as after attending a grand nephew’s wedding in Edmond, OK and returning home the next morning at 5AM Marilyn woke me and said she needed to go to the ER. I rushed her there and they said she had a heart attack. They immediately took her to surgery. The surgeon reported back in about an hour that she had one artery 100% blocked and that we had gotten her there in the “golden hour” and she was going to be fine. No damage to her heart, just needs some healing and she should soon be in good health again. Her rehab begins tomorrow at Hammon’s Heart Institute and I will be going with her. We are hoping for a full recovery for her and for me to get into better condition so we can hit the road again. Getting colder here in Missouri and we hope to head south to Texas in the next month or two. Maybe not before the snow flies but we won’t let that stop us. 🙂

Good health to everyone. Should you think you may be having a heart attack don’t mess around. Get to the ER, the earlier they get to work on you the more likelihood of limiting significant and lasting damage!
