After breakfast at our campsite we decided to do some exploring. We had passed by the entrance to the Lands End Observatory several times. A sign there indicated it was about 11 miles and appeared to be gravel road.
While we did not make it all the way to the observatory we did make it to what used to be the welcome center. Many of the views along the road made the trip very worthwhile. We hope you will agree.

The sign at the welcome center which appeared to
have been closed for a long time.
There are trails at the center which are along the very edge of Grand Mesa overlooking the valley several thousand feet below. Unbelievable vistas.

near the Visitor Center.
And on our way back to the highway we found one aspen tree which had the golden color we hope to see in abundance in the next week or two.

Larry and Marilyn, We’re going to use your blog as a to-do list of things to see in our own home state! Up north here we have certain areas of aspen stands that have reds and oranges in them. I’m sure that happens down there too. It’s stunning. Many might think aspen are only yellow/golden. There are stands of the stuff that will have the reds and oranges mixed in with the yellows. I hope you get to see some of that as well.
Thank you for the comment Mike. We are having a great time here on Grand Mesa!
The aspen here are just beginning to show some color. If they don’t get better in the next week we may have to head up your direction. 🤠
We are going to have to head home by the end of the month.
Larry
